
Sima Rahmani joins the Climate and Weather Master’s program at UNSW. Her research project supervised by Profs Jason Sharples and Jason Evans (both UNSW) is titled ‘Topographic Drivers of Lightning Ignition’.
PhD candidates Amy Smart and Camille Sicangco (both WSU) were awarded project support funds.

Amy Smart’s fieldwork under Prof Brendan Choat began in October 2024 and studies the physiological responses of Gondwana rainforest trees to drought and fire conditions.

Camille Sicangco is supervised by Dist. Prof Belinda Medlyn and her PhD focuses on evaluating the capacity of Australian forests to cope with heatwaves and climatic warming.
And Renee Woodward will also receive funding for her Master’s research at the University of Melbourne under Prof Trent Penman. Her research title is “Enhancing fire-risk decision support tools: species sensitive to the fire regime”.
