NSW AIRBORNE LIDAR DATABASE
PROJECT LEAD: Owen Price
LEAD INSTITUTION: University of Wollongong
END-USER LEAD AGENCY: NSW DCCEEW
PROJECT SIZE: Small <$100,000
DURATION: 1 year
START DATE: January 2026
The bushfire research group at University of Wollongong has built a queryable database housing the NSW Government’s entire collection of airborne LiDAR data (currently 36,000 tiles and 81 billion data points), plus a workflow for continual updating and a suite of query functions. Researchers using airborne LiDAR data in NSW will save hundreds of hours of their time by using this database. We propose to improve access to it, hosting the cover grids on the SEED portal, improving the code and documentation for the r package for the data and collaborating on options for hosting the full database.
