Doug's research aims to contribute to the ways our society manages the climate and natural hazard risks of tomorrow. His research interests include optimisation and decision-support systems, governance of modelling and decision-making processes, risk, resilience and exploratory scenario modelling. He enjoys exploring new and diverse opportunities that broaden his knowledge base.

He completed his PhD as a Westpac Future Leaders Scholar in 2024. His thesis was titled 'Optimising Fuel Treatment Plans to Achieve Bushfire Risk Reduction Objectives using Computationally Efficient and Process-based Metamodels'.
