SPATIAL GAPS IN DATA ON SPECIES-LEVEL FIRE RESPONSE TRAITS
PROJECT LEAD: Rachael Gallagher
LEAD INSTITUTION: Western Sydney University
END-USER LEAD AGENCY: NSW DCCEEW
PROJECT SIZE: Small < $50,000
DURATION: 6 months
START DATE: May 2025
Knowing how species respond to fire – their response traits – is a useful tool for fire planning and management. This project will combine already available trait data on fire response from the AusTraits database for NSW species to identify which spatial regions and species in NSW lack fire response trait data but are regularly exposed to fire. The outcome will be a gap analysis of the coverage of fire response traits for all NSW plants which identifies the combinations of regions and species where new data acquisition could be targeted.
